Build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels (SDG 16)

Home - Scientific Resources - MINEPS - Maximising the contributions of sport to sustainable development and peace - Build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels (SDG 16)

Problems of corruption, doping and the manipulation of sporting competition emphasises the need for improvements in governance throughout sport and its institutions. The transparency and governance of sporting organisations should be considered in measures of the effectiveness, accountability and participatory decision making of public institutions (contributing to SDG 16.6 and 16.7). Equally, reducing the instances of corruption and bribery within sport, whether through the manipulation of sporting competition or the awarding of sport events or tenders, will contribute to broader transparency outcomes and a reduction in the flow of illegal and illicit finance (contributing to SDG 16.4 and 16.5).
